Problems of QTL mapping

Axenovich T.I.

Institute of Cytology and Genetics (Novosibirsk)

Last years new methods for QTL mapping has beencreated. Due to this the number of publications indicating the positions of various QTL's in genome is quickly grows. However, results are frequently inconsistent, and probably therefore progress in identification QTL and understanding of a nature of complex traits till now is not seen. We analysed the methods for QTL mapping distinguished from each other by biological principles, by a set of assumptions, requirements to an empirical material and power of tests. It is shown, that in the majority of methods ideology of Mendelian traits is used for description of complex traits, and for progress in QTL identification we should add and reconsider our representations about a nature of complex traits.
