	THE NOVOSIBIRSK HYDROELECTRIC STATION TO UPGRADE The Institutes of the Siberian Branch of the RAS are creating an automated system for the Novosibirsk Hydroelectric Station maintenance service and control.

	A YEAR IN JAPAN In 2000 the Russian and Japanese Center of the Youth Exchanges has announced a competition "The Obuti Scholarship" for one-year term training at scientific centers of Japan for young Russian scientists working jointly with Japanese colleagues. Senior scientific researcher of the Laboratory of Geomagnetism of the Institute of Cosmophysical Research and Aeronomy of the SB RAS, Candidate Sc. (Physics and Mathematics) D.Baishev has won this competition.
	DISTRIBUTION OF SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE At the November meeting of the SB RAS Presidium the Directors of the Institutes have shown the great interest in the problem of realization of scientific books published using the facilities of the institutes. Our correspondent has discussed a number of questions with the Head of Marketing Service of the SB RAS Publishing House.
