	ACADEMICIAN YU.OSIPOV HAS BEEN ELECTED THE RAS PRESIDENT AGAIN The General Meeting of the RAS with the elections of new structure of the RAS governing body as the main point of the agenda has been opened November 12 at the building of the Presidium of Academy of Sciences in Moscow.
	ACADEMICIAN N.DOBRETSOV HAS BEEN ELECTED THE CHAIRMAN OF THE SIBERIAN BRANCH OF THE RAS AGAIN November 13, the second half of the day, the General Meeting of the Siberian Branch of the RAS devoted to the elections of new structure of the Branch Presidium and its governing body has been held at the building of the RAS Presidium in Moscow.

	THE EAST SIBERIAN BRANCH OF THE RUSSIAN GEOGRAPHICAL SOCIETY IS 150 In 1851 the Siberian Branch of the Russian Geographical Society (SB RGS) has been created in Irkutsk.
	290TH ANNIVERSARY OF S.KRASHENINNIKOV, RESEARCHER OF SIBERIA Stepan Petrovich Krasheninnikov (1711-1755). The researchers of Siberia utter this name with a special respect. October 31 marks the 290th anniversary from the birthday of this outstanding Russian scientist, person of encyclopedic knowledge, famous traveler.
	SCIENTIFIC SESSION IN MEMORY OF ACADEMICIAN S.CHRISTIANOVICH at the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics Regularly scheduled scientific session devoted to creative activity of Academician S.Christianovich (1908-2000) and opening of memorial plate in honor of the organizer and the first director of the ITAM of the SB RAS has been held.
	A TIME TO REVALUE MINERAL RESOURCES Scientists of six countries and six Institutes of the Siberian and Far East Branches of the RAS have gathered at the end of October in Irkutsk, at the A.P.Vinogradov Institute of Geochemistry of the SB RAS in order to discuss the results of the work on the International Project "Mineral resources, metallogeny and tectonics of North-Eastern Asia".
	THE 6TH CHINESE AND RUSSIAN SYMPOSIUM October 16-19 the 6th Chinese and Russian Symposium "Novel materials and technologies" has been held at picturesque mountain ravine on the basis of a modern tourist complex in suburb of Peking (Huai-Jou District) of Chinese People`s Republic.
	"SWIRLING FLOWS" AGAINST A BACKGROUND OF AURORA BOREALIS The "426 EUROMECH and ERCOFTAC" i.e. the colloquium "Swirling flows" has been held in Norway. The Norwegian University of Science and Technologies (Tronheim) and the Institute of Thermophysics of the SB RAS organized the colloquium.
	ALONG WITH HIGH SCHOOL SCIENCE At the end of October the 2nd Seminar of High Schools of Siberia and Far East on thermophysics and heat-and-power engineering has been held at the Tomsk Polytechnic University. The seminar has passed under the aegis of the S.S.Kutateladze Institute of Thermophysics of the SB RAS within the framework of the Federal task program "Integration of Higher Education and Fundamental Science".
	EXPEDITION ACCORDING TO INTEGRAL PROJECT The SB RAS Presidium has ratified the plan of researches for 2000-2002 on integral project "Ob` and Irtysh river basin system: formation, anthropogenic transformation, ecological condition and water consumption strategy". Eleven institutes of the Siberian Branch of Academy of Sciences are executors of the project.

	"SATELLITE CENTER" AT THE TOMSK POLYTECHNIC November 5 presentation of the Central Asia Center for Engineering Education (CACEE) has been held at the Tomsk Polytechnical University.
	SIBERIANS AT THE "FRANKFURT-2001" Siberian publishers and booksellers have undertaken a real assault at the recently finished Frankfurt Book Fair. Four stands of Siberian publishers were displayed.

	A LIFE ACCORDING TO HONEST RATING October 4, 2001 outstanding theoretical physicist, Doctor Sc.(Physics and Mathematics), leading researcher of the Institute of Semiconductor Physics of the SB RAS, Professor of the Novosibirsk State University Victor Iosifovich Belinicher has perished in the airplane crush Tel Aviv - Novosibirsk.
