MEDALS AND PRIZES FOR THE COMPETITION WINNERS!
 
On the Medals and the Prizes of the Russian Academy of Sciences awarding to the young scientists of the RAS, of another establishments, organizations and to the students of higher educational institutions: according to the results of the 12th Competition of 2000 (presentation by the Expert Commissions of the RAS and the Commission of the RAS on the work with youth). The RAS Presidium Decree No.197 of September 6, 2001.
 
ACTIVE SCIENTIFIC POLICY IN TRANSBAIKALIA
 
At the end of September the General Meeting of the Buryat Scientific Center of the SB RAS has been held. At the Meeting the report of the Chairman of the Presidium of the Buryat Scientific Center of the SB RAS, Corresponding Member of the RAS I.Gordienko "On the activities of the Presidium of the Buryat Scientific Center of the SB RAS in 1996-2001" has been listened.
 
VIOLENT CREATIVITY
 
October 7, 2001 outstanding Russian scientist, Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences Aleksei Andreevich Liapunov (1911-1973) would be 90. Appreciating the remarkable person, the talented scientist, the teacher and public figure who is considered by right as the founder of Russian cybernetics and programming, his disciples and followers hold the Anniversary Conference. Within the framework of the Conference program there are presentations of A.Liapunov`s scientific heritage and of the development of his ideas in various fields of modern science. The Conference will be opened on October 8, 2001 at the Small Hall of the House of Scientists of the SB RAS.
 
PROFESSOR FROM THE GENERATION OF STOICS
 
October, 5, 2001 marks the 80th anniversary from the birthday, the 52nd anniversary of scientific and the 47th one of pedagogical activities of Veteran of the Great Patriotic War, Doctor Sc. (Geology and Mineralogy), Professor, Honored Scientific Worker of the RSFSR, prominent scientist in the field of geology and geochemistry of combustible minerals, chief scientific researcher of the Institute of Geology of Oil and Gas of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vladislav Stanislavovich Vyshemirski.
 
CONTEMPORARY PROBLEMS OF ORGANIC CHEMISTRY
 
In September the International Conference "Contemporary Problems of Organic Chemistry" dedicated to memory of Academician V.Koptiug has been held at the Novosibirsk Academgorodok.
 
GENETIC TARGET FOR THERAPEUTIST?
 
A representative international conference held by the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the SB RAS was devoted to genetic therapy as one of the promising fields of biomedicine of the 21st century.

The International Conference "Geodynamics and Strained State of the Earth`s Bowels" organized by the Institute of Mining of the SB RAS has been finished.
 
PETROLEUM: FROM EXTRACTION TO TRANSPORT
 
The 2nd Scientific and Practical Conference "Oil and Gas Extraction, Preparation, Transport" has been held at the Institute of Petroleum Chemistry of the SB RAS (Tomsk).

THANKS FOR SUPPORT
 
Owing to the spring flood in Yakutia the Lensk city and a number of rural settlements were completely flooded. Over the Republic there were 39 libraries in the zone of flooding, thus library stock, equipment and inventory were completely destroyed in 16 libraries. Many regional library centers of Russia have assisted in updating book funds of the injured libraries. From the libraries included in the Novosibirsk Library Society, 3650 books were received for the restoration of book stock of the Lensk Central Library.
