	SCIENTIFIC EVENTS IN FEBRUARY
	THE INSTITUTE IS NAMED AFTER December, 26, 2006 the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences has resolved to name the Institute of Semiconductor Physics of the SB RAS after Academician Anatoli Vasilievich Rzhanov, outstanding scientist, the organizer and the first Director of the Institute.
	AS BEFORE REMAINING IN THE RANKS January, 23, when one of the founders of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Siberian Branch of the Academy of Sciences, prominent scientist – geophysicist Corresponding Member of the RAS Epaminond Epaminondovich Fotiadi would be 100 years old, his team-mates, colleagues, friends and followers have gathered once again in order to recollect the good affairs and undertakings those are connected with the name of this wide-ranging person.
	THE PATRIARCH OF SOVIET GEOPHYSICS On the occasion of the 100th anniversary from E.E.Fotiadi's birth date.
	THE KEY FOR THE RICHES OF RUSSIA In the autumn of 2006 the conference «Fundamental problems of the formation of man-caused geo-environment» organized by the Institute of Mining of the SB RAS and gathered the experts in the field of open and underground geotechnologies, mineral dressing, mining and building engineering science has taken place in the Small Hall of the House of Scientists of the SB RAS.
	FROM GAS FOR COAL December, 20, 2006 a conference has taken place in Moscow: «New generation: „the second coal wave“, gas market and the reform of thermal electric power industry».
	TOWARDS NEW JOINT ROUTES Recently China was visited by a large delegation of the heads of the Institutes of the Irkutsk Scientific Center.
	HOUSING PROBLEM? THERE ARE SOLUTIONS! For many years the housing program for scientific workers is already in operation in Kuzbass. At the end of the last year three flats have been transferred by the Regional Administration to the Kemerovo Scientific Center for its administrative use. Already before the New Year's holidays the employees of the Institute of Human Ecology have occupied the flats. That is a new solution of the housing problem.

	THE SECOND M.A.LAVRENTIEV CHESS MEMORIAL November, 19, in St.Michael’s Day, just a year after the beginning of the first Memorial, the second tournament in memory of the great son of Russia M.A.Lavrentiev devoted to the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Siberian Branch of the RAS has been solemnly opened.
	ART COLLECTION OF NEMIROVSKIS’ FAMILY At the House of Scientists of the Novosibirsk Academgorodok an exhibition paintings and graphic art collected by Nemirovskis’ family has been opened and will be held till February, 4.
	LYRICS BY LEV FIRSOV In the January days of 1981 Lev Vasilievich Firsov (1926-1981), well-known Russian geologist, Doctor Sc. (Geology and Mineralogy) has died.
	HE HAS BROUGHT SYMPHONIC MUSIC TO NOVOSIBIRSK On Monday, January, 22 Arnold Michailovich Katz has died in the 83rd year of his life in Peking.
