	IT`S OUR HOLIDAY! Old residents of Academgorodok solemnly celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Siberian Branch of the RAS.
	BASIC MARKS OF DEVELOPMENT OF THE SIBERIAN BRANCH OF THE RAS FOR 45 YEARS 45 years have passed from the date of adoption of the USSR Ministerial Council Decree on the creation of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences in 1957. There is no doubt, both history and today`s condition of the SB RAS are well known for the majority in our scientific community. And the 45-year date is a kind of an informal anniversary. However, daring to hold the present solemn session, the Presidium of the SB RAS proceeded from the fact that any anniversary is an occasion to comprehend the traversed path. All the more it`s so at the present time of large-scale transformations in all the spheres of our life, when all the occurring promotes new understanding and new estimations of the past events.
	ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE SCIENTIFIC CENTERS OF THE BRANCH Alongside with the Novosibirsk Scientific Center the following centers are incuded into the structure of the Siberian Branch of the RAS: the Buryat, Irkutsk, Kemerovo, Krasnoyarsk, Omsk, Tomsk, Tyumen, Yakut, Altay scientific centers, as well as some separate scientific organizations of the SB RAS in Kyzyl, Chita and in Republic Altai.
	THE NOVOSIBIRSK SCIENTIFIC CENTER: TRADITION AND PROSPECTS OF DEVELOPMENT Last year the resolution on creation of the working group for the development of the special status of the Soviet District as the scientific and technical platform of the Novosibirsk Region has been adopted at the NSC November General Meeting.
	ON THE COMPETITION OF THE PROJECTS OF THE NSC YOUNG SCIENTISTS DEDICATED TO THE 45TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SB RAS Resolution of the Presidium of the Siberian Branch of the RAS.
	DEVELOPMENT OF LAVRENTIEV`S IDEA The Academician M.A.Lavrentiev Prize for the work "Travelling superficial waves above an underwater mountain ridge" has been won by Candidate Sc. (Physics and mathematics) Dmitri Kuznetsov, scientific researcher of the Laboratory Differential Equations of the M.A.Lavrentiev Institute of Hydrodynamics of the SB RAS.
	THE NAVIER-STOKES PROBLEM AGAIN The Academician I.N.Vekua (the first rector of Novosibirsk State University) Prize in the field of mathematical physics has been won by Candidate Sc. (Physics and Mathematics) Alexandr Mamonthov for his work "Solvability in large" of the non-univariate equations of a viscous compressible fluid".
	THE STEPPES OF SIBERIA BEING IN NEED OF PROTECTION May 7, defense of a doctoral thesis titled "Vegetation of the steppe biome of Southern Siberia: cenotic variety and spatial structure" by the senior researcher of the Laboratory of Ecology and Geobotany, Candidate Sc. (Biology) Koroliuk Andrei Yurievich was held at the Central Siberian Botanical Garden.
	RECORD IN INORGANIC CHEMISTRY For billions years the huge number of organisms has been created on the Earth, which were formed as a result of interactions of their "molecular" constituents. These "constituents" are nano-dimentional biomolecules, first of all proteins and nucleic acids.
	THE DEEDS OF PEOPLE ARE IMMORTAL... Several memorial libraries have already appeared at the Siberian Branch of the RAS. Their creation is financially supported by the Presidium of the SB RAS, by the scientific Russian and foreign foundations, by the Institutes.
	AMONG THE MOUNTAIN LANDSCAPES AND ALPINE MEADOWS Chief scientific researcher of the Central Siberian Botanical Garden, Professor, prominent botanist Rosita Yakovlevna Plennik celebrates her 75th anniversary these days.
	SCIENCE OF URAL 2002 is the anniversary year for the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In June the 70th anniversary of the Ural Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences and the 15th anniversary of its successor, the UrB RAS, will be celebrated. Let`s see the issues, of the newspaper "Science of Ural" published in this year.
