	SCIENTIFIC EVENTS IN AUGUST
	"SR-2002" IN ACADEMGORODOK July 15 the 14th Russian Conferences on the utilization of synchrotron radiation for fundamental researches and applied tasks "SR-2002" has been opened at the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the SB RAS.
	PATHWAY TO TECHNOPOLIS July 4 joint session of the Presidium of the SB RAS and the Novosibirsk Regional and City Administrations has been held at the Small Hall of the House of Scientists. There were questions in the agenda "On the territory of scientific and technical development at the Novosibirsk Scientific Center and the cooperation of its subjects with the enterprises of the City" and "On the strategy of the development of the Novosibirsk State University".
	TRADITIONAL GATHERING OF BIOINFORMATICIANS The Novosibirsk Academgorodok has again gathered the specialists for a conference on bioinformatics of regulation and structure of the genome BGRS`2002.
	Academician Michail Michailovich Lavrentiev is 70 Congratulation of the Presidium of the SB RAS.
	GIFT OF PROVIDENCE July 17, 2002 outstanding scientist, geneticist-evolutionist Academician Dmitri Konstantinovich Beliaev would be 85. He has left a memorable trace in the life of the Novosibirsk Academgorodok and the Institute of Cytology and Genetics of the SB RAS, which he headed since 1959 up to 1985.

	TO "DISPENSE WITH" THE DOPPLER EFFECT The windows of the special pavilion of the Institute of Laser Physics of the SB RAS do really blaze with bright red every night.
