	TRANSIT POTENTIAL OF RUSSIA Russia occupies a unique geographical position. Through its territory the overland transcontinental highways can pass, which will connect Europe with Central and Southeast Asia and even with North America. From this issue we begin the publication of a series of materials devoted to the creation of the international transport corridors. It is especially urgent because the given problem will be discussed at the 2nd Baikal Economic Forum to hold in autumn of this year.
	MODERN METHODS OF THE MATTER RESEARCH Scientific and practical seminar "Modern methods of the matter research" has been held March 19 by the Japanese Company Jeol Ltd., the Moscow representation of the Tokyo Boeki Ltd. (Japan) and the Institute of Catalysis of the SB RAS.

	LOT OF A THEORIST Theorists have appeared at the Institute of Chemical Kinetics and Combustion almost at once, a minimal number at the beginning. Laboratory of Theoretical Chemistry which is 30 now, was created later.
	PHYSICAL FORMULAE BOTH FOR SCIENCE AND LIFE The Physics Department of the Novosibirsk State University is one of the leading centers of Russia in the field of training of physicists of supreme qualification within a broad spectrum of specialties. Physicists of various ranks (student, lecturer, dean) answer the questions of the "SiS" correspondent today: why did they go in for science, why have they chosen Physical faculty and what differs the physicists from mathematicians, chemists and other people?
	INNOVATION WAY OF THE ECONOMY DEVELOPMENT: RELYING ON KNOWLEDGE In the Ministry of Industry and Science of Russia the resolution is accepted on the creation of the technological innovation center in Altai Region. The Association "Altai Technopolis" of the I.I.Polzunov AltSTU and the PC "ANITIM" were chosen to be the base for its organization (according to the results of 2001 the latter has become the winner of the main All-Russian prize "Russian National Olympus" within the nomination "Outstanding enterprise of medium and small scale business of Russia".

	MOUNTAIN SKIING SEASON This winter rich in weather surprises has brought significant changes to the schedule of the regional mountain skiing competitions in Novosibirsk. Therefore in March almost weekly the regional tournaments are held.
	TENNIS FESTIVALS The Tennis Club of the Novosibirsk Academgorodok and the Sports Department of the House of Scientists traditionally hold tennis tournaments on the occasions of the Day of Defender of Motherland and the International Women`s Day.
