	VISIT OF CHINESE DELEGATION From September 15 to September 17 an official Chinese delegation headed by Lie Pen, the Chairman of the Standing Committee of All-Chinese Assembly of People`s Representatives of the People`s Republic of China visited Novosibirsk. The Chinese delegation included the representatives of the superior legislative body of the People`s Republic of China, as well as of the Embassy of China in Russia.
	THE AGREEMENT on cooperation between the SB RAS and the Academy of Sciences of China in the field of training of the probationers and post-graduate students.

	PAYING TRIBUTE TO MEMORY On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Academician V.Koptiug.
	LAVRENTIEV`S CENTERARY September 18 in the morning the Anniversary International Conference " The Lavrentiev Readings on Mathematics, Mechanics and Physics" has begun its regular work. Director of the Institute of Mathematics of the SB RAS Academician М.М.Lavrentiev, the son of the great, famous "Grandfather" has made the first report.
	ON THE OCCASION OF THE ANNIVERSARY OF V.N.BAYER September 27, 2000 Professor Vladimir Nikolaevich Bayer, the outstanding theoretical physicist, the head of laboratory of the Theoretical Department of the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the SB RAS is 70.
	"TO MEASURE EVERYTHING YOU SEE..." September 21, 2000 the well-known scientist in the field of dynamics of rarefied gases Viacheslav Nikolaevich Yarygin is 60. Unique vacuum gas dynamic arrangements created by his labor at the Institute of Thermophysics of the SB RAS allow to decide a broad spectrum of scientific problems, and the diagnostic electron beam methods developed by him permit to penetrate profoundly into the essence of processes under study.
	THE SB RAS PRESIDIUM MEETING
	INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE "CHEMISTRY OF OIL AND GAS" From October 2 to October 6 the 4th International Conference "Chemistry of Oil and Gas", dedicated to the 275th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Science and to the 30th anniversary of the Institute of Petroleum Chemistry of the SB RAS will be held in Tomsk on the basis of the Institute of Petroleum Chemistry of the SB RAS.
	ECOLOGY AND SCIENCE Last Thursday the International Conference "Problems of Mercury Contamination of Natural and Artificial pools, ways of its prevention and elimination" has began its activity at Irkutsk.
	THE EXHIBITION FAIR "COAL-EXPO" From September 12 to September 15, 2000 the International Exhibition Fair "COAL- EXPO" having already become traditional one was held in Kemerovo. The present one is a broad display of the achievements of the Russian coal-mining and mining machine-building, as well as of the up-to-date experience in the coal-mining industry.
	THE BAIKAL ECONOMIC FORUM: INCREASING ROLE OF NATURAL GAS The whole complex of events of the All-Russian and international scale happens these days on Baikal. The representative community of the energy scientists and the chiefs of power industry discussed from September 14 till September 17 at the All-Russia conference the problems of sustaining and safe development of the power engineering of Russia in the 21st century.
	TIME OF THE RUSSIAN INTELLECT Academician Lev Lvovich Kiselev, the Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Russian program "Human Genome" has participated in the Second International Conference on Bioinformatics of Genome Structure Regulation. He is a prominent scientist, whose scientific interests have contained a very wide range of researches during his life. His participation in the Conference was determined, certainly, both by his scientific status and by his personal research interest. But not only by them...
	A LARGE-SCALE ASSEMBLAGE OF CHEMISTS The institute of Catalysis of the Siberian Branch of RAS together with the Institute of Petroleum Chemistry and Catalysis of the Academy of Sciences of Republic Bashkortostan has held two representative scientific forums (two in one) i.e. the 4th Conference " Scientific Bases of Catalysts Preparation and Technology" and the 3th Conference Problems of Catalysts Inactivation" at Sterlitamak City that is one of the large chemical and petrochemical centers of Republic Bashkortostan, where the "islands" of the catalyst industry are still kept. A considerable role in the event organization have been played by the Ural Scientific Center of the RAS, the Academy of Sciences of Bashkortostan, the Republican Government, the "Caustics" and "Rubber" joint-stock companies. The Conference was supported by the Ministry of Science and technologies of Russian Federation, the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, and the Scientific Council on Catalysis of the RAS.
	"RADIANCE OF RUSSIA" ON THE ANGARA BANK SHORE From October 2 to October 8 at Irkutsk traditionally will pass the Days of Russian spirituality and culture "Radiance of Russia". As it is known, the well- known Siberian writers headed by Valentin Rasputin have become pioneers of this event.
	THE GEOELECTRICITY RESPONDS... The Institute of Geophysics of the SB RAS headed by Academician S.Goldin will be 10 in the following 2001. At the same time in the structure of institute there is a laboratory, the history of which includes 40 years. 	THE GODS FROZEN IN TIME Since 1983 the Subarctic ethnographic group of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the SB RAS carries out the researches in Lower Ob` River area (Berezovsk, Beloyarsk and Shuryshkar districts of the Tyumen Region) at the residence places of the Hanty and Mansi ethnic communities.
	BREAKTHROUGH INTO THE HEART OF THE EARTH HISTORY The writer of these diary records is the Vice-President of the Irkutsk Scientific Center, Director of the Institute of Geochemistry of the SB RAS, the the State Prize-winner, Corresponding Member of the RAS Mikhail Kuzmin. The main direction Mikhail Ivanovich`s researches is typification of magmatic rocks, the problems of abyssal geodynamics and hot belts of the Earth. He is one of the creators of a recent trend in geologic science such as the geochemistry of magmatic rocks.
	THE LOCAL AUTHORITIES HAVE SHOWN INTEREST IN OUR CORN Since the first days of the organization of the Institute of Cytology and Genetics (ICG) of the SB RAS, the laboratories engaged in selection of agricultural plants were created. For the years passed since then, many good results have been obtained on the nurture of different sorts and hybrids for the Siberian zone. Unfortunately, it is far from being all of them to find recognition. However, that is true not for practical farmers (with them it`s just OK), but for those who takes decisions and assigns money. So here: among the results of the selective work of the ICG there is obtaining the populational sorts of corn for Siberia. This is a topic for today.
	OBTAINING NEW KNOWLEDGE The name of the Irkutsk contributor in the field of organic, physical-organic and elementorganic chemistry, Director of the Institute of Chemistry of the SB RAS Boris Trofimov is well known in the world science. It is enough to say, that the general reaction of ketoximes with acetylene, discovered by him that permits to develop the new principles of designing pyrrole systems, has been included in all the monographs and tutorials as "the Trofimov Reaction". Boris Alexandrovch is the author of more than 1500 publications, more than 400 inventions, 9 monographs published both in our country and abroad. Recently Boris Trofimov is selected the Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
	INTERNATIONAL RECOMMENDATION FOR THE NOVOSIBIRSK STATE UNIVERSITY According to the invitation by the NSU rector, Corresponding Member N.Dikansky, the University was visited by the commission of the Saltsburg Seminar experts including Elena Kamenski, the Coordinator of the programs with Russia, Jerome Reddy, the councilor of the United Nations, the Chairman of the National Committee on Higher Education of Southern Africa and Lotter Zechlin, the rector of the Karl Frances University (Graz City, Austria).
	THE ACADEMICIAN SATPAEV LECTURE HALL IN TPU Within the framework of the Regional Conference of the geologists of Siberia, Far East and North-east of Russia dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the Mining and Geological Service of Russia at the Faculty of Geological Survey and Oil-and-gas Production of the TPU the solemn discovery of the nominal, The Academician K.I. Satpaev Lecture-hall will be held. Kanysh Imantaevich Satpaev is an outstanding graduate of the Faculty, Usov`s follower, the founder and the first President of the Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan.

	BOOKS FROM GERMANY SPREADING FORWARDS THE EAST For many Siberians the exhibitions of the German books, certainly, have already become customary events. For the first time the exposition "Books from Germany" was organized in Novosibirsk and Tomsk in October 1992. After the first exhibition tour over Siberia has passed with a great success, its organizer, the Frankfurt Book Fair under the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany - has made a decision to conduct similar exhibitions regularly also in the other cities of Siberia.
	A KEY TO THE FUTURE May 18, 2000 the regular Annual Meeting of the Federation of the Founders of Foundations in support of German science was held in Bremen. During the celebratory event at the Bremen City Hall the physicist, Professor Ioachim Troisch, has read a report, in which he has stated his vision on the process of the science development. At the center of interests and aspirations of the researchers there will be, together with the "energy" subject, also the creation of new materials, informational and gene engineering. According to Troisch, the 21st century will go in an atmosphere of "a paradigm of the complexity of living systems".
	TECHNOLOGIES OF COMMUNICATION AND SAFETY September 12 with a traditional bell strike at the Exhibition Hall of the "Siberian Fair" the Eighth International Exhibition "SibCommunication-2000", the Second Specialized Exhibition "SibInternet-2000", and the Ninth International Specialized Exhibition "SpasSib-2000" have been opened. More than 150 companies of Russia as well as of the nearest and far abroad have taken part in the exhibitions.
	THE MOSCOW INTERNATIONAL BOOK FAIR At the beginning of September the main book event of this year in Russia, the Moscow International Book Fair was held.
	"SiS"-2001 The subscription campaign for the first half-year of 2001 is starting.
	THE CHAMPIONS BEING YOUNG GEOLOGISTS OF KRASNOYARSK The Krasnoyarsk Region that is equal on its area to four areas of France always was an attractive territory for geologists. There are deposits almost of the all the elements of the Mendeleyev`s Periodic Table in the Region. There always was, is and will be a lot of job for geologists here. There is also concern of young successors. About forty years the Internal and Extra-mural School of Young Geologists is already functioning in the Region. The young geologists` team of Krasnoyarsk was always an active participant of the Siberian Geologic Olympiads held in the USSR Academy of Sciences and the RAS, and it was traditionally considered to be a strong command.
